The Opportunity
Abbott Transfusion Medicine – EMEA Technical Support Team (TST) is looking for an Automation Application Support Specialist to join our team.
This role can be based in Zagreb (Croatia), Prague (Czech Republic), Warsaw (Poland), Alimos (Greece) or Maidenhead (UK).
Reporting to the TM EMEA TST Manager, you will support the definition and design of product requirements and deliver hands-on installation, complex configuration, system integration, and customer/internal training for GLP track system automation solutions and associated AlinIQ middleware products. Support will be provided both on site and remotely.
What You’ll Do
1. Acquire in-depth knowledge of GLP automation solutions and act as the SME (Subject Matter Expert) for GLP applications.
2. Provide comprehensive application support to end‑users for the total automation solution.
3. Collaborate with the TST team during the solution design process, acting as the GLP workflow SME to help define optimal workflows and support achievement of TAT objectives.
4. Analyze workflow needs and design customized workaround strategies where necessary.
5. Lead face‑to‑face workshops with potential end‑users to define workflow objectives and align on final workflow rules.
6. Own the creation and ongoing updates of the Automation Workflow Document for each active end‑user solution.
7. Research and collect field intelligence on competitive automation platforms, with a focus on workflow capabilities and functionalities.
8. Contribute to pre‑implementation project preparation and collaborate closely with the Project Manager during implementation.
9. Take ownership of the GLP TSM/TWM application configuration for new installations, expansions, additions, or workflow changes.
10. Define internal validation protocols to qualify workflow processes and anticipate exceptions or error‑management scenarios.
11. Support customers in defining their own qualification processes for the delivered solution.
12. Deliver structured user training on GLP TSM/TWM applications.
13. Conduct regular post‑go‑live visits to analyze performance statistics, gather feedback, and propose optimization opportunities.
14. Support the acquisition team in preparing automation-related data for customer business review meetings.
15. Contribute to tender processes and proposal preparation related to automation solutions.
16. Provide product/feature enhancement input to the TM global automation team.
Required qualifications and background:
17. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in health science, engineering, clinical biology, laboratory technology, or a related field.
18. 1–2 years of relevant experience installing, configuring, and/or maintaining diagnostics laboratory systems.
19. Strong understanding of diagnostics laboratory workflows and related technologies.
20. Hands‑on experience as a laboratory automation end‑user or as an implementation/application specialist.
21. Fluent English (written and spoken).
22. Strong verbal and written communication skills with excellent customer‑facing capabilities.
23. High attention to detail, strong quality orientation, and commitment to completing tasks independently.
24. Problem‑solving and action‑oriented mindset, with willingness to suggest improvements and resolve escalated issues.
25. Ability to analyze workflows, understand performance metrics, and identify optimization opportunities.
26. Technical proficiency with MS Office and general business applications (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet).
