Job description
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Technical Clerk to join the Integrated Transport Unit within the Infrastructure and Environment Directorate. This maternity cover role plays a vital part in ensuring the smooth delivery of Education and Social Services transport across Pembrokeshire, with a specific focus on transport for Looked After Children and coordinating our internal pool car fleet.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate transport arrangements for looked after children and other service users in line with service requirements.
- Support the planning and coordination of home-to-school, public and other passenger transport services.
- Prepare, monitor and analyse budget information, providing regular financial reports to relevant stakeholders.
- Review routes, claims and service delivery to identify efficiencies and cost savings.
- Monitor service performance and passenger statistics, producing reports and escalating issues where required.
- Process and verify claims and payments for transport contractors, volunteers and employees.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding, DBS and contractual requirements for drivers and passenger assistants.
- Coordinate the booking, maintenance and day-to-day management of the internal pool car fleet.
- Maintain accurate records and databases to support service delivery.
- Liaise effectively with social workers, schools, transport operators, internal colleagues and members of the public, responding to enquiries and complaints in a professional manner.
About you
We look for someone with the following:
- A good general education (GCSEs, NVQ Level 2 or equivalent) and experience of working with complex spreadsheets and databases.
- Confidence working accurately under pressure and meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Experience within the transport sector or a similar operational environment.
- A full driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
- Desirable ability to speak Welsh.
Additional information
The role is mainly office-based, with occasional travel to other locations. The postholder is expected to comply with all relevant safeguarding, health and safety, equality and data protection policies.
