The Team
This is an outstanding opportunity to join the world’s leading price reporting organization as it strengthens and grows its presence across the European and Africa oil supply chain. Customers in over 150 countries look to our expertise in pricing, news and analytics to deliver greater transparency and efficiency to markets. The London-based oil pricing team is a dynamic team responsible for key pricing benchmarks. The price reporter will work across oil markets with colleagues in London and globally, in an often fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities and Impact
We are seeking a senior market reporter to drive our oil pricing coverage in Europe. The successful candidate will be part of a global team and possess knowledge of market intelligence-gathering activities and assessing prices, applying Platts methodology. This individual must be comfortable writing about pricing information and interpreting data. Being a team player is of utmost importance in this role.
* Assess markets: Rotate between different oil market teams assessing the value of crude oil and oil products in Europe and Africa, accurately and fully in line with our rigorous and well-known methodology. Survey market participants throughout the day; publish price updates through the day, especially all information that might be used in assessing value; demonstrate a thorough understanding of Platts\' methodology; be rigorous when using mathematics and assessment workbooks; and ensure our methodology for market is up to date. May launch new assessments and represent Platts at industry events such as conferences or in face-to-face meetings.
* Write high-quality market commentaries: Write commentaries associated with oil market assessments to help readers understand what is happening in the market and how we arrived at our assessments. Ensure commentaries meet editorial standards for writing and reporting.
* Report news about the markets: Report news and analysis relating to the market and develop ideas for graphics, podcasts, webinars. Cover stories on supply and demand developments, government data, regulatory changes, trade flows, price trends, energy transition and other relevant topics. Work closely with the news desk, the Price Reporting Manager, and others to identify and write insightful news.
* Engage with the industry: Engage with market sources, develop new sources, maintain relationships, keep source lists up to date, and send meeting summaries to the manager and colleagues.
* Team player: Collaborate with colleagues across London-based oil teams and interact with global offices in Singapore, Houston and New York.
What We’re Looking For
Basic Required Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree
* Understanding of physical oil markets
* Strong numeracy skills including basic algebra and statistics and ability to apply basic maths functions in MS Excel
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with a wide range of roles internally and externally
* Strong spoken and written communication skills in English
* Ability to perform to tight deadlines
* Works well in a team environment, focusing on collaboration
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
