The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Lead Bridge Engineer to join our Amey Consulting team. We welcome applications from Lead Engineers across this region.
Our Amey Consulting Structures Team designs some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects across Scotland, with cumulative values in excess of £1bn.
The Role
As a Lead Senior Engineer you will provide effective support and assistance to your Design Team Leader on a variety of civil schemes while taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior designers.
Responsibilities
* Lead a team to produce technically sound engineering solutions that comply with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
* Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and documentation to meet quality, cost and programme criteria.
* Oversee the work of junior staff and take responsibility for their actions.
* Manage the commercial success of projects within your portfolio, controlling budgets and managing costs associated with deliverables.
* Liaise with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attend progress meetings, and respond to queries.
* Contribute significantly to bid preparation and the general work‑winning function.
* Drive effective health and safety practices within the team.
What You Will Bring to Us
* Developed experience and expertise in the relevant technical field, usually gained in a Senior Engineer role or equivalent.
* Ability to produce technically sound engineering solutions while working unsupervised and supervising junior staff.
* Experience in managing health, safety and welfare tasks, e.g. Amey’s Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
* Capability to act as day‑to‑day main engineering contact for a project (e.g. Contractor’s Responsible Engineer for Network Rail schemes).
* Knowledge of design and specification processes and ability to advise others, including checking designs to a high standard.
* High competence with relevant software and analytical tools; ability to check work produced by others.
* Very good understanding of CDM and risk assessment, with substantial experience in managing, communicating and mitigating hazards and risks.
* Capability to act as Principal Designer where required.
* Supervisory and people‑management skills for a medium‑sized, locally based single‑discipline technical team.
* Incorporated or Chartered status, or an equivalent professional licence, is desirable and may be essential on particular contracts.
