Job Introduction
BBC Sport is looking for creative and dynamic Assistant Producers to work across our output in BBC Sport Productions.
We want BBC Sport’s output to reflect and understand the audiences we serve — for example, the different geographical regions of the UK and the experience of people from underrepresented groups. We encourage applications from individuals with skills or experience that can help contribute towards ensuring we maximise the diversity of our coverage and content.
Main Responsibilities
Assistant Producers contribute to the output by working as part of production teams across BBC Sport. You will work across various platforms and support our content teams. Tasks include working on live action and highlights programmes, participating in all aspects of the VT operation, outputting content with our digital live team, and supporting our digital teams with content for social platforms.
You will be passionate about sports, know what makes a good story, and enjoy producing creative and ambitious content within budget.
You will be confident producing shoots, directing cameras, talent, and contributors, as well as planning shoots and edits for various outputs. A good understanding of the editorial and production requirements of a live OB is essential.
You will be able to identify and create exciting digital video content, pitch ideas, and develop formats for use across teams and platforms — from live streams, linear TV, social platforms, digital shortform content, to longer features.
You’ll be flexible, positive, collaborative, and a confident communicator. You will use data insights to inform your ideas, share your skills and knowledge with other BBC Sport teams, and be eager to learn and develop new skills.
Our extensive rights portfolio means we cover some of the biggest sporting events. You need to know your sport, have sound editorial judgment, and be able to spot engaging stories and moments.
Are you the right candidate?
This role requires significant experience in TV Sport Production. We seek individuals with a flair for filmmaking and experience in sport outside broadcasts, fast turn-around programmes, live gallery skills, and post-production knowledge. Creativity and treatments that reflect our diverse audience are crucial.
The ideal candidate will conduct in-depth research, build relationships internally and externally, and contribute creatively to post-production. Developing skills such as self-shooting and video editing, along with understanding what content works well on digital platforms, is essential.
You should have a genuine enthusiasm for sport, an understanding of captivating stories and personalities, and excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively and work with high-profile talent.
You will be a problem-solver, adaptable to challenges, and available to work weekends supporting events, programming, and output.
This is not an entry-level role; candidates must have relevant experience. Please review the criteria before applying.
