We have an exciting opportunity to join the Oncology Team as a SACT Navigator within our Chemotherapy Services.
We are looking for somebody who is self‑driven, extremely organised, has excellent communication and interpersonal skills and who is confident to communicate with a variety of teams.
Your role will involve working alongside other health professionals such as the medical teams, pharmacy, pathology, nursing and the patient and their family/carers. You will also develop good working relationships with secondary care and community colleagues. Ideally you will have some previous experience in Oncology/Haematology or Chemotherapy.

Responsibilities
* To support the Oncology Unit Manager/Unit Co‑ordinator by assisting the nursing team in the co‑ordination of the unit’s activities to maximise efficiency and prevent delays within the pathway.
* Liaise with the nursing and oncology pharmacy staff to co‑ordinate the supply of systemic anti‑cancer treatments (SACT) so that they are available for each patient’s appointment.
* Liaise between nursing staff, aseptic pharmacy, and outpatient pharmacy (TTO’s) regarding patient attendance and communicate ‘go ahead’ or any delays.
* Triage telephone calls and provide basic advice, support, and signposting.
* Liaise and refer to other appropriate healthcare professionals.
* Ensure that any investigations are booked and the results reviewed and authorised appropriately prior to patients receiving treatment.
* Ensure the appropriate management of patient information and the co‑ordination of patient pathways through collaborative working with medical secretaries, MDT coordinators, clinical nurse specialists and other departments as required within the Trust.
* Ensure the appropriate and timely booking of follow‑up outpatient appointments in conjunction with treatment appointments.
* Support the nursing and pharmacy team in ensuring patients receive their supportive medication prior to discharge.
* Refer patients to the community nursing team as directed by the nursing team.
* Collect and analyse data for the Oncology Unit as requested by the Unit Manager or the Lead Nurse.

The Oncology SACT Navigator will form an integral part of the multidisciplinary team in caring for the physical, social, and psychological needs of patients and carers who attend the Chemotherapy Suite throughout their treatment pathway. Under the guidance and supervision of the Oncology Unit Manager/Unit Co‑ordinator, you will be responsible for co‑ordinating the patient pathway. The focus of this role will be to ensure timely co‑ordination of new patients receiving their first cycles of treatment, and you will be expected to cross‑cover the roles of the other SACT Navigators during periods of leave.
The post holder will have daily direct contact with patients and their families, providing support, advice, and will be the main point of contact liaising with the medical, nursing and pharmacy teams.
The role will also involve the undertaking of administrative tasks deemed suitable to the role by the Oncology Unit Manager.
