Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join a key project at the Port of Blyth, supporting the installation and operation of a crawler used for trenching and laying utility cables. The role requires a skilled tradesperson capable of installing new parts, refurbishing equipment, and performing mechanical maintenance in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Build, assemble, and maintain the crawler and associated mechanical equipment.
* Install and replace components, including internal gears and seals (trade test will be required).
* Operate equipment safely in line with project procedures.
* Interpret and work from engineering drawings and specifications.
* Conduct fault diagnostics, repair, and general maintenance on mechanical systems.
* Perform rigging tasks as required for equipment installation and movement.
* Work under health and safety guidelines, ensuring all tasks meet industry and project standards.
* Maintain accurate records of work completed, inspections, and maintenance activities.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
* Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter, ideally in civil, utility, or heavy plant projects.
* Overhead Crane Ticket and rigging experience essential.
* MJI / TMJI certifications required.
* MEWP/IPAF Cert
* Ability to read and work from engineering drawings.
* Skilled in fitting, fault finding, and mechanical assembly.
* Able to complete a trade test on internal gears and seals.
Desirable Skills:
* Experience working with crawlers, trenching machines, or heavy plant.
* Prior exposure to civil utility or infrastructure projects.
* Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. xxuwjjq
