The new consultants are required to join the oncall groups of anaesthetists at the John Radcliffe hospital, the Nuffield Orthopaedics centre and the Churchill hospital sites which are part of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. These posts are replacement posts following retirements. These posts would suit anaesthetists seeking to have a consultant career in a major teaching hospital with considerable expertise in major cancer surgery, complex vascular procedures, major trauma, orthopaedics and plastics trauma surgery.
The Nuffield Department of Anaesthetics is one of the largest departments in the country. The department is well known for having a friendly, diverse and inclusive Anaesthetics team, supported by outstanding surgical colleagues. The department provides a comprehensive elective and emergency service for a wide range of surgical and diagnostics specialties.
Main duties of the job
The focus of this post is the delivery of high-quality anaesthesia for major cancer surgery, complex vascular procedures, major trauma, orthopaedics and plastics trauma surgery. There are in addition flexible sessions in the posts allowing the post-holder to maintain an interest and skills in other areas of anaesthesia. Out of hours the post-holders will be on call to provide emergency cover for general surgery, trauma, specialist surgery including vascular procedures, plastics, ENT, stroke thrombectomy and transplantation depending upon their specialist interests and clinical experience.
