Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity across the surgical division with multiple HCA vacancies available.

SAU and Surgical Same Day Emergency Care: 2 Full Time vacancies working over a 24hour roster, variety of shifts.

Ward 22: 2 Full Time vacancies working over a 24hour roster, must be flexible to work days and nights.

Pain Team: 24 hrs per week, must be flexible to work over the week as service demands.


Main duties of the job

Clinical Duties

* Supporting and caring for patients
* Providing help with nutritional and hygiene needs
* Helping with daily activities

* Additional clinical skills such as venepuncture, cannulation, ECGs (desirable but not essential)

Working for our organisation

We employ more than 6,500 staffwho deliver compassionate care from our two main hospitals,Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary as well as in community sites, healthcentres and in patients’ homes. We also are incredibly proud to have almost 150 volunteers here at CHFT.

We provide a range of services including urgent and emergency care; medical; surgical; maternity; gynaecology; critical care; children’s and young people’s services; end of life care and outpatient and diagnostic imaging services.

We provide community health services, including sexual health services in Calderdale from Calderdale Royal and local health centres. These include Todmorden Health Centre and Broad Street Plaza.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

SAU and Surgical Same Day Emergency Care offer the opportunity to work across two areas alongside an excellent team who strive to provide the highest standard of care. SAU is a 28 bedded area and you would support the Registered Nurse to care for a group of patients from a range of specialities. SSDEC provides emergency care to surgical and urology patients from ED or GP. You will be expected to fulfil the role of a HCA and progress to additional skills which include venepuncture and cannulation, ECGs and link nurse roles. We hope for a highly motivated individual with a passion for healthcare, learning and developing.

Pain Clinic, as a HCA you play a vital role in supporting patients throughout their pain management journey. Working collaboratively with our nursing and administrative teams, you provide essential clinical and clerical support to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the clinic. Responsibilities being:

* Assist with X-ray and ultrasound-guided procedures in the designated treatment room.
* Act as a chaperone during patient examinations and procedures.
* Perform reception duties, including patient check-in and appointment coordination.
* Support the nursing team with patient care and preparation.
* Maintain cleanliness and readiness of clinical areas.
* Ensure accurate documentation and contribute to patient record management.

This role requires compassion, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality care in a fast-paced clinical environment

Ward 22 care for post surgery patients, and those who have stepped down from ICU and patients from surgical assessment who require ward based care.

You will be expected to take observations and escalate concerns, to work as a team, to be involved as a link person. Follow the trusts goals, visions and values, and to be motivated and kind, to not only your team, but to the patients and their relatives to ensure an inclusive environment for all. Act as a chaperone for procedures and examinations, to empty stomas, drains and catheters and record these on EPR. To support your nursing team, and other health professionals that frequent the ward, such as dieticians, physiotherapists, specialist nurses, Drs, discharge co Ordinator etc. Your role will involve all cares of the patients, personal care, oral care and toileting. You will learn lots of skills and we endeavour to support you in your own goals and interests, so you feel valued within your role

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

* English and Math GCSE grade 9-2 (A*-E) or equivalent or high level of literacy and numeracy skills demonstrated within application
* Competence based level 2 Qualification e.g. NVQ or Diploma in Care or The Care Certificate issued by an employer
* Willingness to undertake any training or development relevant to the role
* Competent / able to evidence the completion of Health Care Assistant core competencies
* Competence based level 3 Qualification e.g. NVQ or Diploma in Healthcare Support
* Competent in cannulation /venepuncture/plaster training and specialist dressings
* Moving and Handling
* Infection Control
* Customer Care


KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

* Previous employment with a healthcare setting (18 months)
* Insight into the roles of responsibilities of the post
* Demonstrate a commitment to a caring profession
* Understand the importance of record keeping
* Literacy Skills
* Experience of record keeping

The Trust will administer the DBS check on your behalf and will recover the cost (Enhanced £54.40, Standard £26.40 or Basic £26.40) from your salary when you commence in post (including Internal staff). You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service and pay the £16 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment.
