The role
As a Power Systems Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary where you will have the opportunity to provide technical support to the private electrical power distribution network at Devonport, consisting of standard HV/LV distribution, frequency conversion, high integrity supplies for critical facilities and nuclear naval vessels and SCADA systems for remote control and monitoring purposes.
Day to day, you’ll be responsible for providing technical support to Devonport’s electrical power distribution network and associated equipment to ensure availability and reliability, whilst maintaining legal and regulatory compliance.
As Power Systems Engineer responsibilities will include:
1. Providing technical advice on the operation and maintenance of power distribution equipment
2. Maintaining configuration of technical drawings and documentation
3. Specifying replacement equipment and components
4. Undertaking asset condition and obsolescence surveys
5. Leading fault diagnosis, rectification and return to service testing
This role is full time - 36 hours and will be based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard 2 days per week with 3 days hybrid working from home arrangements.
Essential experience of the Power Systems Engineer:
6. Understand electrical engineering principles
7. General power system knowledge
8. Familiarity of key industry frameworks, standards and codes
9. Ability to understand engineering drawings and produce electrical drawings using AutoCAD
10. Ability to produce technical reports and documentation
11. Experience of fault diagnosis and rectification activities
Qualifications for the Power Systems Engineer:
12. A minimum of HNC or equivalent in an Electrical/Electronic/Power Engineering discipline.
Please note that this position is subject to enhanced national security vetting. The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements (this may include obtaining SC, NNPPI or Developed Vetting (DV) level of security clearances).
