Overview
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra-low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Expertise relating to control systems design and SCADA / telemetry systems would be beneficial.
Responsibilities
* Work within the Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate to influence and shape how the service is delivered into the future.
* Provide technical engineering leadership and support to the whole organisation to meet objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and commitments to net zero carbon.
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules, for electrical systems and equipment (HV and LV power systems and control systems) within assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures and monitoring sites.
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on electrical systems and equipment.
* Hold a national incident response role which may operate within or outside normal working hours.
* Collaborate within the MEICA Engineering Standards team to provide technical standards, management and leadership across mechanical, electrical and control system activities.
Experience/Skills Required
* A good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* A good working knowledge of control systems, including the application of IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry / SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Knowledge and experience in the development and delivery of Safe systems of work, risk assessments, method statements.
* Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Strong understanding of a risk-based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies and implementation, including the application of Failure Mode Effects Analysis, reliability systems and processes.
* Drafting and publishing of electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.

This is a hybrid role, and a base location near to your home will be allocated. Travel and overnight stays may be required. You’ll have an incident management objective in your development plan. Appropriate training will be given.
