Area Planning Officer - The Role:
Rushcliffe Borough Council are pleased to announce two vacant positions in their Development Management team with an opportunity to join a well-established and forward-thinking team with a strong track record of growing their own evidenced by the number of internal promotions already undertaken.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a wide range of experience across the Development Management process to share knowledge and help continue to flourish and support those across the team whilst dealing with a complex caseload.

Area Planning Officer Key Responsibilities:
- Process a wide range of planning applications, including site visits, fast-tracking minor cases, and preparing delegated/committee reports while maintaining accurate records
- Negotiate Section 106 agreements in line with council policies (as appropriate to experience)
- Support Planning Committee work, including preparing items and presenting applications when required
- Manage planning appeals and provide advice to applicants, agents, and the public, including negotiation where needed
- Assist with enforcement investigations, including potential court involvement
- Organise workload to meet targets, collaborate across council teams, and carry out duties in line with policies, standards, and service needs
Area Planning Officer - You:
- Experience working in Development Management within local government, handling planning applications and engaging with the public via multiple channels
- Qualified in Town & Country Planning (or equivalent) or with relevant practical experience, with strong knowledge of planning processes and regulations
- Skilled in preparing clear reports, letters, and statements to support informed decision-making
- Ability to interpret plans and technical/legal documents, and carry out research and site assessments
- Proficient in IT systems including Microsoft Office and GIS/database applications
- Strong personal skills: organised, self-reliant, and analytical, with the ability to meet deadlines, work independently and in teams, communicate effectively, and present confidently with tact and diplomacy
