Job Purpose
An excellent opportunity for an experienced Accounting Technician to join the Finance team in a treasury-focused position. You'll assist in managing treasury activities with investments of £70m–£100m, VAT, reconciliations, payroll support, and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with Treasury Management activities including investments and reconciliations.
* Provide financial information for Head of Service, Group Accountant, and budget holders.
* Reconcile the cashbook and bank accounts.
* Support preparation and monitoring of budgets.
* Assist with completion of monthly VAT returns and control account reconciliations.
* Prepare audit working papers and contribute to final accounts for Loans, Investments, and Financial Instruments.
* Assist in the preparation of the Treasury Management Strategy Report.
* Support payroll services, daily BACS, ad hoc payments, and invoice processing.
* Maintain treasury and VAT records, ensuring compliance with CIPFA and International Accounting Standards.
* Liaise with external auditors, providing evidence for an unqualified audit opinion.
* Ensure accurate financial data for government returns and committee reporting.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Education
* AAT qualified (or equivalent) – Essential
* Minimum Grade A–C GCSE (or equivalent) – Essential
Experience
* Knowledge/experience of Local Authority Accounting – Essential
* Experience in preparation and monitoring of budgets – Essential
* Experience in analysing complex financial data – Essential
* Experience in Local Authority Treasury Management and/or VAT – Desirable
* Teamworking experience – Desirable
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
* High standard of numeracy and accuracy – Essential
* Good working knowledge of Excel/spreadsheets – Essential
* Ability to organise, prioritise, and meet deadlines – Essential
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills – Essential
