Responsibilities
* Undertake the full range of general, specialist, elective and emergency duties of a consultant congenital cardiac surgeon.
* Perform the full range of congenital cardiac surgical lists, and additional supportive surgical procedures (e.g. ECMO).
* Perform congenital surgical 1:4 on-call duties as required.
* Support all cardiac surgical care required on PICU and CICU.
* Support the development of excellent congenital cardiac services across the Oxford-Southampton Network.
* Perform duties in line with agreed job plan and support the education of junior staff.
* Contribute to the department’s culture of openness, education and research, and participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as appropriate.
Qualifications
* Essential criteria
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* GMC registration with a licence to practise
* MRCS or Equivalent
* Fully Accredited for Specialist Training in Congenital cardiac Surgery or Cardiothoracic Surgery (CCT or CESR)
* Desirable criteria
* Membership of relevant Specialist Societies or Associations
* Higher Degree eg. MSc, MD, PhD or equivalent
Aptitudes and Skills
* Able to manage the full spectrum of Paediatric and Adult congenital cardiac surgery
* Ability to undertake independently congenital cardiac procedures of low and moderate complexity
* Ability to independently manage cardiac ECMO patients (A&I), including participating in MDT discussions and safely perform peripheral and central cannulations
* Evidence and ability to work effectively in multi-professional teams
* Understanding of equality and diversity and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
* Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English)
* Demonstrate good organisational skills including ability to prioritise effectively and meet deadlines
* Demonstrate the ability to be calm, compassionate, and able to respond efficiently to various circumstances
* Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
Desirable criteria
* Ability to independently perform complex neonatal procedures
* Ability to independently perform ACHD procedures including complex redo operations
