Applications welcome from community pharmacists, newly qualified pharmacists and pharmacists already working in a hospital setting. The SWLSTG pharmacy team have an excellent opportunity for a pharmacist to join our friendly department.

The role will include providing clinical pharmacy services to dedicated wards alongside developing skills and knowledge to enable you to work towards contributing to multi‑disciplinary team meetings, ward rounds, providing medicines education to patients, carers and staff and completing departmental audits. You will receive excellent support and training from our senior pharmacists and will be supported in continuing professional development and education within Psychiatry.

You will participate in clinical rotations across different specialities and sites within the Trust.


Career Progression pathways and development opportunities

This role will help in your development towards specialist clinical practice. There will be opportunity to participate in our pharmacy rotation scheme as well as opportunities to become involved in research and quality improvement as well as undertaking a development program to help you progress to more senior roles within the department.

Successful candidates will be strongly encouraged to undertake newly qualified pharmacist training (previously known as the clinical diploma) and obtain post‑registration foundation status with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, with support provided for this.

This varied role includes participation in Ward and Clinical Pharmacy services, provision of specialist advice to medical and nursing staff on the use of medicines, preparation and delivery of training and education sessions to staff both within the pharmacy department and across the Trust, participation in the production of treatment guidelines and protocols to promote effective use of medicines within the Trust and participation in general medicines optimisation initiatives & projects.

We have fully implemented Electronic Prescribing & Administration throughout the Trust and have ongoing service improvement initiatives for inpatient and community services, which the successful candidate will be able to contribute to.

Essential qualities for this post include hospital pharmacy experience, excellent communication and organisational skills, and self‑motivation; experience of providing medicines information to other healthcare professionals is desirable. The successful candidate must be able to show compassion and respect for people with mental health problems and be driven to improve their care through medicines optimisation.


Agile and flexible working

Monday to Friday – 9 to 5pm – No weekends/Bank holidays/late duty rotas. You may be required to participate in the on‑call rota.

Location

Springfield University Hospital, Tooting – Our largest, 19‑ward site is in Springfield Village, created following our £150m investment into two new world class mental health facilities. A 32‑acre public park, shops and cafes are coming soon. Close to shops, cafes and Tooting Bec on the Northern Line plus Earlsfield and Tooting rail stations and bus routes.


Responsibilities

* Provide clinical pharmacy services to designated wards or teams, supporting safe and effective prescribing and administration of medicines.
* Provide pharmacist supervision for designated sessions in the dispensary including clinical screening of prescriptions, labelling, dispensing and checking of medicines, including clinical trials medicines.
* Counsel patients and their caregivers on all relevant aspects of their medicines.
* Provide medicines information to Trust staff, patients and their caregivers, including involvement in the production of pharmacy information bulletins.
* Undertake specified pharmacy practice training activities as agreed.
* Assist in medicines management audits and other project work.
* Participate in the provision of medicines education sessions to patients and carers.
* Provide specialist advice to medical and nursing staff on the use of medicines and Medicines Management in its broadest sense.
* Participate in the Trust’s Emergency Duty Pharmacy service.
* Supervise the work of supporting staff, including pharmacy technicians, students, pharmacy assistants and trainee pharmacists.
* Contribute to education sessions, both to pharmacy staff and other Trust staff.
