Job Description:
We are currently recruiting experienced HGV Class 1 (C+E) Drivers to support our client’s busy bakery distribution centre in Walthamstow. This role involves a mix of depot transfers and deliveries to RDCs and major supermarkets. This is not trunking-only – manual handling of full and empty bread baskets is required.
You will be operating barn-door vehicles, using tail lifts, and expected to conduct daily tacho downloads and maintain vehicle safety standards at all times.
Shifts: 7-day operation (Monday to Sunday)
* AM shifts: 04:00 – 09:00 start
* PM shifts: 14:00 – 17:00 start (most in demand)
* Occasional midnight starts (00:30)
Start Date: Immediate upon assessment and induction
Minimum Shift Pay: 8 hours guaranteed
Average Shift Duration: Up to 12 hours
Key Responsibilities:
* Multi-drop deliveries to RDCs and large retailers (e.g. Lidl, Aldi, Tesco, Sainsbury’s)
* Trunking between depots: Stevenage, Stoke, West Bromwich, Southampton
* Use of double decker trailers (training provided if needed)
* Manual handling: pushing/pulling wheeled dollies of trays
* Use of PDA devices to record deliveries and track schedules
* Conducting pre- and post-trip vehicle checks and tacho compliance
Requirements:
* Valid UK Class 1 (C+E) licence
* Minimum 6 months recent Class 1 experience
* Valid CPC and Digital Tacho Card
* Max 6 penalty points (minor only – no DR, IN, or DD codes)
* Physically fit and comfortable with manual duties
* Safety boots, gloves, and high-vis are mandatory
* Must complete manual tacho entries and comply with WTD
Induction & Assessment:
* Paid induction (8 hours) and unpaid assessment (2 hours)
* Includes written test, vehicle check, and 1–2 days of shadowing
* Candidates must carry a valid Site Passport Card (REC Source to issue)
* Failed assessments = 3-month wait before re-attempt (flexible case-by-case)
