In this role, you’ll lead the civil design of electricity substations across the UK, guiding projects from concept to completion. Your Role and Responsibilities
As a Civil Engineer, you’ll have the chance to work on exciting design frameworks for Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and high-profile projects. Here’s what you’ll be doing:
* Lead the production and review of engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and reports for various structures, including masonry buildings and drainage systems, on projects valued between £100K - £20M.
* Collaborate with clients and internal teams to ensure effective project delivery, providing updates and identifying potential risks to programme, quality, or cost.
* Participate in progress meetings at client or contractor offices and construction sites.
* Attend design team meetings to ensure timely flow and release of quality information.
* Manage design risks to deliver practical, buildable solutions.
* Provide engineering solutions to site-based challenges through the TQ/RFI process.
* Mentor junior team members, offering technical guidance and promoting their professional development.
* Take charge of your own professional growth in line with best practices and legislative changes.
What We’re Looking For
We seek an ambitious civil engineer who embodies the following attributes:
* Proven experience in a design environment for traditional masonry buildings, steel portal frames, and reinforced concrete.
* Experience in client-facing roles, with a knack for managing relationships effectively.
* Ability to lead multiple technical projects simultaneously in a challenging environment.
* Strong communication skills to engage in technical discussions with colleagues and clients.
* A commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning.
* A degree in Civil Engineering (or a related subject) and working towards Chartered or Incorporated status with a relevant professional body such as ICE.
Desirable Skills
* Experience in the electricity distribution sector, particularly in substation design and electrical infrastructure.
* Practical experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and Civils3D for civil engineering design.
