Overview
Health Care Assistants – In-Patient Unit, Phyllis Tuckwell Memorial Hospice. Salary £12.21 – £12.62 per hour (dependent on experience), plus enhancements. Current location: Camberley, Surrey (Farnham, Surrey from Spring 2026). This role involves providing high quality patient and family-focused care within a supportive environment on our In-Patient Unit bank team.
We are looking for dynamic and motivated Health Care Assistants who are enthusiastic about delivering exceptional care and who value strong peer and managerial support.
Responsibilities
* Clinical: ensure statutory obligations are met; maintain quality standards to provide holistic care; assist with assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care (within your qualifications and under supervision); follow agreed models of care and work allocation; escalate incidents as appropriate and assist with investigations and risk assessments.
* Professional: work within the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and the PT business philosophy; participate in the multidisciplinary team; deliver safe, high-standard care in line with PT policies; provide information and support to patients, carers and relatives where appropriate; maintain effective relationships; keep accurate and contemporaneous records in line with Caldicott guidelines.
* Managerial: comply with PT and Health & Safety governance policies; maintain and support the clinical area and monitor resources; foster a team environment and provide personal support; manage time effectively to meet PT aims.
* Training and Development: support the professional development and safe practice of others; maintain up-to-date knowledge of PT guidelines and participate in continual professional development and annual appraisal.
* Research: participate in audit and implement evidence-based practice findings where applicable.
* Safeguarding, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion: understand safeguarding responsibilities and work to reduce risk of harm to adults and children at risk.
You Are Required To
* Adhere to Phyllis Tuckwell Safeguarding Policy; inform appropriate PT professional if there is concern that a patient or adult may be at risk of harm, abuse or neglect.

Qualifications and Skills (Essential)
* Care Certificate or willingness to undertake health care courses
* NVQ / QCF / Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) / City & Guilds Level 2 or above
* Good communication and interpersonal skills; empathy and compassion; clear, legible writing; ability to report changes in a patient’s care
* Commitment to high-quality, individualized holistic care; understanding of health and safety and information governance; awareness of PT policies and procedures
* Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team; flexible and reliable with good attendance and punctuality
* Experience in care settings (care home, patient’s home or hospital) and caring for dying patients with progressive diseases
* Basic IT skills (email/internet) with willingness to improve
* Ability to work supervised or unsupervised as appropriate; proactive and able to cope with stressful situations
Person Specification
* Essential: ability to work as part of a team, willingness to learn, effective communication, empathy, and a caring approach; maintain confidentiality and demonstrate commitment to quality care
* Desirable: experience in MDT working and a strong attendance record
