Job Title: Principal Product Safety Engineer

What you’ll be doing:
1. Leading a small team developing a functional Safety Case
2. Managing the production of a functional Safety Case to a defined schedule, reporting to a Safety Engineering Manager
3. Undertaking complex safety analysis using techniques such as Fault Tree Analysis and Event Tree Analysis
4. Producing written functional safety justifications
5. Liaising with a wide range of stakeholders both external and internal to the business, typically System Engineers, Human Factors Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), etc.
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
* STEM Degree or relevant experience
* Experience in leading a small team
* Delivering functional Safety Cases
* Complex safety analysis and justification
Desirable:
* Previous submarine experience
* Particularly Vehicle Control Complex Control Systems

The Product Safety team:
If you are interested in understanding how submarines operate and how the Royal Navy manages submarine operations, then this role is for you. As a Product Safety Engineer, you will assist System Engineers in influencing submarine systems and capability development. You will develop an understanding of how submarine systems work together and ensure that system interactions consider Product Safety appropriately.
The role involves all aspects of safety management and safety case delivery, including safety requirements capture and management, hazard identification and analysis, hazard data management, application of the ALARP principle, creation/maintenance of safety documentation, and continuous improvement of the safety management system. This role offers a broad overview of a complex system (submarine).
