Senior Content Editor Department: Marketing and Communications Responsible to: Head of Marketing & Communications Hours of Work: Full time, 37 hours per week Location: Hybrid – minimum 2 days per week at UK Coaching Head Office, Leeds Salary: Circa £40,000 Main Purpose of the Role: To plan, organise, create and publish content, copy, images and video that aligns with our charitable and strategic objectives engages our audience, profiles our products and services and performs in search engines, ultimately raising brand profile. About UK Coaching UK Coaching is the leading charitable organisation in the UK for sport and physical activity coaches. We also have an award industry-recognised qualifications and assessments team supporting the sport, physical activity and health and leisure sectors, through our 1st4Sport brand. Together, we exist to inspire and support the nation’s 3 million coaches, from grassroots volunteers to high-performance professionals with an aim to make lasting positive change through sport and physical activity. We deliver education, training and resources to empower coaches and organisations, champion diversity and inclusion in coaching and work with partners across the sector to create a healthier, happier, more active nation. Our work also includes leading and managing the Play Their Way campaign, funded by Sport England and delivered in partnership with the Children’s Coaching Collaborative (CCC), which promotes child-centred coaching and play. Find out more: ukcoaching.org 1st4sport.com playtheirway.org Role Purpose We’re looking for a motivated, creative, and well-networked Senior Content Editor to lead the creation of high-impact, multi-channel content that inspires coaches, celebrates great stories, and raises the profile of our brands and programmes. Working within the Marketing & Communications team, you’ll plan, produce and publish engaging written, image and video content across UK Coaching, 1st4Sport and Play Their Way platforms - from feature writing and interviews to digital campaigns and event storytelling. This is a hands-on editorial role that combines journalistic flair with digital marketing awareness and stakeholder engagement. Key Responsibilities: Create engaging written, image and video content and manage the coordination of content creation and publication alongside our Marketing and Creative Studio teams. Content Strategy & Creation Plan, research, write and edit features, blogs, interviews, case studies, videos, and campaign copy that align with our strategic objectives. Work with the Learning Team to produce video and written learning resources for coaches and learners. Create content for web, social, email, and PR campaigns to raise awareness of our work and impact. Manage the editorial calendar, ensuring consistency of tone, quality, and brand voice. Video & Multimedia Film, edit and produce video interviews, webinars, and social clips at events and in the field. Manage and optimise our YouTube, Vimeo and Mixcloud channels for SEO and audience growth. Collaborate with the Creative Studio on image sourcing, editing, and formatting for publication. Digital Publishing & Optimisation Upload and publish news, features, campaign stories, course landing pages, and event content via CMS. Work with the Digital Marketing team to optimise content for web, email and social performance. Analyse performance metrics to inform future content direction. Campaigns, Events & Relationships Lead content creation for flagship events, including the UK Coaching Awards and UK Coaching Week, working closely with Events and Creative teams. Conduct interviews and build long-term relationships with sector stakeholders, coaches, and partner organisations. Produce stories and features supporting campaigns such as Women in Coaching and High-Performance Coaching. Person Specification Essential Skills & Experience Proven editorial or journalism background with experience commissioning, writing, and editing multi-platform content. Strong storytelling ability and news sense, with experienced interviewing contributors, ideally within the sports sector, from grassroots to elite sport. Proficiency in video capture and editing Experience managing CMS content, digital assets and SEO optimisation. Excellent written English, accuracy, and attention to detail under pressure. Ability to work to tight deadlines and juggle multiple projects. Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills. Experience collaborating with social, digital and creative teams on integrated campaigns. Desirable Understanding of the sport, coaching, or physical activity sector. Short form vertical video creation Knowledge of accessibility and inclusivity in content design. Familiarity with YouTube optimisation and analytics. A relevant qualification in journalism, media, communications, or sports marketing. Personal Attributes Passion for sport, coaching and education. Proactive, organised and self-motivated with a collaborative mindset. Confident, creative and curious - always looking for the next great story. Tasks required by the Senior Content Editor: You will be creating: Website pages, case studies, company blogs, industry interviews, emails and storytelling content for UK Coaching (our charity and B2C brand) and UK Coaching 1st4Sport (our B2B brand). Blogs and videos for the UK Coaching Club online community Video clips that feature in online courses for coaches, sports and physical activity industry professionals. Working with team members to come up with engaging topics that catch and hold the attention of readers. Working with team members to establish the content brief. Planning the creation of content. Recommending formats for content – video, written, graphics etc. Researching topics to gain a deeper understanding. Ensuring all content requests are logged on our project management software. Coordinating written content production as required between the marketing and creative teams. Establishing trust and credibility with interviewees to create dialogue and gain meaningful opinions and insights. Crafting each piece of written content. Filming video footage and editing it to create clips. Working with our Creative Team to source and edit images before making them web-ready. Publishing content on our sites and working with our Social Media Manager to ensure it is shared effectively through social media. Working with our Campaigns Manager and Events Manager to plan, coordinate and produce content as required for our flagship events, UK Coaching Awards and UK Coaching Week. Setting deadlines and working to ensure deadlines are met. Reviewing web statistics to measure success of content (against time invested) to inform future content direction. Following, promoting and implementing UK Coaching’s policies for the equal treatment of all employees, applicants and customers.
