Deputy Divisional Director of Nursing – Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC)

We are pleased to offer an exciting and challenging opportunity for an exceptional and experienced Senior Nurse to join the leadership team within the Medicine Division at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon.

We particularly welcome applications from individuals with significant expertise in urgent and emergency care, who can bring strong clinical leadership, operational insight, and a passion for delivering high‑quality patient care.

The Division of Medicine is large and diverse, encompassing Front Door Services, General Internal Medicine, and Diagnostic Services. We are seeking a dynamic, driven, and compassionate registered nurse with demonstrable experience in leading acute and emergency care services. While a professional background in medicine would be advantageous, it is not essential; however, the successful candidate will be expected to rapidly develop a strong understanding of the clinical services delivered across the Division.

Responsibilities

* You will have a proven track record of leading clinical teams, driving improvement, managing change, and placing safety, quality, and patient experience at the centre of everything you do.
* To provide professional and clinical leadership to nurses within the division, acting as a role model both in the division and across the trust, ensuring high performance in managerial and clinical practice is both developed and maintained. Leading and contributing to an effective quality improvement work programme as part of the divisional plan and corporate nursing agenda.
* Your leadership skills will be utilised throughout changes in the near future, shaping longer‑term plans and continuing to support the delivery of high‑quality nursing care across a variety of teams.

Our modern hospital is in Swindon, Wiltshire and we also provide services in primary care and community settings. On the edge of the Cotswolds, there is much to offer in the area with close links to London and Bristol and a huge variety of local villages and towns including Cirencester and Marlborough.

We will support any successful candidate to be the best version of them and we would therefore like to encourage applicants from any underrepresented groups.

If you have the drive, enthusiasm and resilience to fulfil this high‑profile role we would like to hear from you.
