This post is full-time and fixed-term, working 35 hours per week.
The School of Computer Science and Engineering is seeking to recruit a committed, adaptable individual to join our experienced team of academic staff as a 1.0 FTE Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence. We are seeking to recruit as soon as possible and in time for the 2025-2026 academic year, and the post will be fixed-term for 18 months in the first instance. You must be sufficiently proficient in major programming languages, in particular Python, and have a good understanding of software development principles and data science pipelines and be able to adapt to teaching from level 3 to level 7.
The School is seeking to broaden its current strengths in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, and so candidates who can add to and complement the expertise of the existing members of the School will be considered. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: reasoning, autonomous systems, machine learning, AI and industrial processes, machine learning and ethical and safe AI.
Accordingly, the successful applicant will have knowledge and awareness of current research and practical challenges in Artificial Intelligence. Most of the teaching duties for the post will be in the area of AI, Data Science and Analytics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, though this may vary. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with a PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, and Operational Research, or with equivalent experience gained in industry.
Duties will include teaching face-to-face and online, setting assessments, marking, and giving feedback, supervision of final year and post-graduate projects, and acting as a personal tutor to provide pastoral support to students. As part of the role, you will be expected to support students for competitions, work based learning and other opportunities for enterprise.
Furthermore, you will also be expected to contribute to School strategic subject based, professional or pedagogic research and development, and other scholarly activities in order to support your teaching. Staff are also encouraged to develop their external research profile and the appointee to this post will be expected to contribute to one or more of the School's multidisciplinary Research Groups.
