Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer (Manufacturing) (Req/681398) Maesteg, Wales
Salary: GBP 40,000 - 45,000 per annum + Excellent Contractual Benefits
Your New Role
As a Maintenance Engineer you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of manufacturing equipment and systems. Your role centres on ownership of the Preventive Maintenance (PPM) program, ensuring all maintenance activities are planned, executed on time, and continuously improved based on equipment performance, breakdown trends, and operational feedback. You will be a well‑rounded engineer, motivated to learn and take responsibility, and will drive improvements regardless of electrical or mechanical bias.
Working closely with production and engineering teams, you will reduce downtime, improve equipment reliability, and embed a proactive maintenance culture across the site. You will also support broader engineering projects from initial design through to build and final commissioning, ensuring maintainability, reliability, and operational efficiency at every stage.
Your Key Responsibilities
* Own and manage the Preventive Maintenance (PPM) programme, using CMMS (Limble) to plan, execute and improve scheduled maintenance tasks.
* Develop and optimise the CMMS system, maintaining asset hierarchies, maintenance plans and historical records to enhance planning and tracking.
* Drive continuous improvement in maintenance strategy by analysing breakdown trends, recurring faults and equipment performance data to refine approaches and implement proactive and predictive maintenance solutions.
* Lead root‑cause analysis and problem solving, investigating equipment failures with structured problem‑solving techniques and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
* Ensure high‑quality maintenance execution, completing work safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption to production.
* Collaborate cross‑functionally with production, engineering and compliance teams to prioritise activities and coordinate downtime.
* Support engineering projects across the full lifecycle, including:
o Providing input at the design stage focused on maintainability and reliability.
o Assisting with equipment build, installation and integration.
o Helping with testing, validation and final commissioning.
* Identify opportunities to enhance equipment reliability and performance through modifications, upgrades and improved maintenance practices.
* Monitor and report maintenance KPIs such as PM compliance, downtime, MTBF and MTTR, providing regular updates and insights to support decision‑making.
* Develop maintenance standards and best practices, creating and refining procedures, job plans and standards for consistency and high quality.
* Promote a proactive maintenance culture by supporting the transition from reactive to planned maintenance, improving planning processes and encouraging operator involvement.
* Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental standards, carrying out all activities in line with company policies and legal requirements.
* Respond to breakdowns, applying strong diagnostic skills to restore equipment safely and efficiently while capturing lessons for future prevention.
Qualifications and Experience
* Essential: Demonstrable experience or strong understanding of engineering principles, practical problem‑solving mindset and ability to work with mechanical and/or electrical systems.
* Desirable: Formal engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ, HNC/HND, Apprenticeship or Degree in Engineering or related discipline); experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment; experience using CMMS systems, preferably Limble.
* Equivalent Experience Considered: Relevant hands‑on experience, strong technical aptitude and willingness to learn and develop are equally valued.
