Location: Hucknall, Nottingham
Salary: £28,000 – £30,000 per year (plus £70 per sleep‑in)
Contract: Full‑time, Permanent
We are recruiting on behalf of a compassionate and supportive children’s residential provider who is seeking an experienced Senior Support Worker to join their team. The Role: Senior Support Worker
As Senior Support Worker, you will play a key role in supporting children with learning disabilities and helping maintain a safe, therapeutic and nurturing home environment. Working closely with the Registered Manager and wider team, you will support daily routines, lead shifts, and act as a positive role model for both children and staff.
As a Senior Support Worker, you will:
* Provide high‑quality, person‑centred care to children with learning disabilities
* Support daily home routines, therapeutic activities and life‑skills development
* Lead shifts, ensuring staff are organised, supported and working safely
* Assist with care planning, risk assessments and behaviour support plans
* Maintain high‑quality documentation and accurate reporting
* Support new and developing staff through guidance and positive example
* Contribute to household tasks including menus, shopping and activity planning
* Help manage challenging behaviour calmly and therapeutically
* Communicate effectively with children, staff and external professionals
* Promote equality, dignity, safeguarding and children’s rights at all times

Key Responsibilities
* Lead shifts and take responsibility for staff direction in the absence of senior colleagues
* Support quality assurance and ensure records are kept to high standards
* Provide guidance and informal supervision to other Support Workers
* Participate in multi‑agency meetings and review processes
* Ensure risk assessments, care plans and behaviour plans remain up to date
* Help maintain positive routines, structures and meaningful daily activities
* Promote emotional wellbeing and therapeutic support approaches
* Use initiative and resilience during challenging or emotional situations
Person Specification
Essential Requirements:
* NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
* Minimum 2 years’ experience in residential childcare
* Understanding of learning disabilities, safeguarding and children’s rights
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Basic IT skills
* Ability to maintain professional boundaries
* Emotional resilience and capacity to work in challenging situations
* Full UK Driving Licence
* Experience supporting or mentoring other staff
* Strong knowledge of relevant childcare legislation and regulations
