Overview
The purpose of this job is to support the client at home to do the things they like and to help maintain independence for as long as possible. Responsibilities include companionship and providing respite for the daughter.
The client is an elderly lady living in Barry who enjoys an active lifestyle, including singing, walking, and going out in the car for a picnic lunch. Communication is often through song or sign language, and care takes a holistic approach.

About the client
The client can become tired and enjoys looking at photographs and cards collected over the years. She loves looking at art books and flower arranging. She has a hearing impairment and mid-to-late Alzheimer\'s disease. During the middle stage of Alzheimer\'s, dementia symptoms are more pronounced. Behavioural changes may include suspiciousness with unfamiliar people and confusion about time or place. The daughter is very supportive and will accompany the client when a new helper starts. When a relationship is formed, the client can be outgoing, chatty, and enjoys socialising in the local community. The client has some coordination issues with getting in and out of the car and will need help with everyday personal care tasks. There is a good routine to help set up and get ready for the day.
Person specification / Qualifications
* Active, enjoys teaching in a forward-thinking way
* Physically fit, patient and understanding
* Experience of Alzheimer's, work or personal
* Has own vehicle with business class insurance
* Good sense of humour, full of energy, able to think outside the box with a holistic approach
Employment details
This position is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS Disclosure (Police Check), which must be completed prior to the commencement of employment. The cost of this check will be covered by the Local Authority.
All necessary checks will be conducted to verify that the candidate has the legal right to work in the UK before employment begins.
Although this is a part-time role, it is a legitimate position requiring the submission of a National Insurance number. Employment will commence under an initial trial period.
Wages will be paid on a four-weekly basis and appropriate holiday pay will be provided.
