Job Purpose
The Maintenance Engineer will support the reliability, efficiency, and safety of all site assets by providing reactive and planned maintenance across production equipment, facilities, and infrastructure. Strengthening the existing maintenance team and reducing reliance on reactive fixes, contractors, and downtime-driven interventions.
The position is primarily day-based, with the expectation to provide shift and out-of-hours cover when required to support business continuity.
Major Job Responsibilities
Maintenance & Reliability
Respond to breakdowns across the site, supporting production areas including pre-press, print, cut & crease, finishing, and dispatch.
Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities in line with the site CMMS (C-Works).
Diagnose faults, carry out repairs, and implement permanent corrective solutions where possible.
Support continuous improvement of plant reliability and uptime.
Site & Facilities Support
Maintain site infrastructure, services, and facilities to ensure compliance with legislation and company standards.
Support inspections, servicing, and repairs related to buildings, utilities, and fixed equipment.
Work safely at all times, adhering to site EHS requirements and safe systems of work.
Planning, Reporting & Systems
Accurately complete maintenance records, reports, and work orders within the CMMS.
Support maintenance planning by identifying repeat issues, improvement opportunities, and parts requirements.
Manage spares and stores inventory in line with operational needs.
Cost Control & Budget Awareness
Liaise with suppliers to source parts and services, balancing cost, quality, and lead time.
Support the Site Management Team with budget control, spend monitoring, and cost-effective decision making.
Liaise with purchasing and accounts payable regarding orders and invoices.
Team & Project Support
Work collaboratively with the Site Management Team and wider maintenance team on projects and site improvements.
Provide holiday and sickness cover within the maintenance team as required.
Where appropriate, provide guidance or informal supervision to other engineers or contractors.
Essential
Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
Proven experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving capability across mechanical and/or electrical systems.
Experience carrying out planned and reactive maintenance in a production setting.
Ability to work independently, manage workload, and prioritise effectively.
Strong communication skills and a professional approach when working with internal teams and external suppliers.
Computer-literate with experience of maintenance systems or willingness to learn.
Desirable
Experience within packaging, converting, printing, or carton-producing environments.
Multi-skilled background (mechanical / electrical).
Experience supporting or supervising others in a maintenance or engineering setting.
Awareness of budget control, spares management, or contractor cost management.
Formal engineering qualification (apprenticeship, City & Guilds, HNC, or equivalent).
Role
Primarily day shift, site-based.
Flexibility required to cover shifts, breakdowns, or urgent issues outside normal hours.
Hands-on role across production, warehouse, and site infrastructure areas.
