Management Accountant - St Albans
We are currently working with a well-established and highly profitable SME based in St Albans that is seeking an experienced and ambitious Management Accountant. This is a great opportunity for a capable, hands-on Management Accountant who’s comfortable taking ownership of day-to-day finance activity as well as routine reporting.
The role also offers genuine scope to take on additional responsibilities as the business continues to expand, giving the successful candidate the chance to grow alongside the company and broaden their exposure across the finance function.
Key Responsibilities:
* Complete month-end close activities, including preparing key adjustments and ensuring major balance sheet accounts are fully reconciled.
* Produce timely management accounts and maintain accurate asset records, including updates for acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation.
* Create monthly reporting packs and financial summaries for senior leadership review.
* Support the CFO with board-level reporting, investor updates, and ad-hoc financial analysis as required.
* Coordinate monthly payroll data with the external provider and verify payroll outputs before payment.
* Handle required HMRC submissions and prepare quarterly VAT filings accurately and on time.
* Perform daily bank postings and routine reconciliations, ensuring cash records remain up to date.
* Review supplier payment runs and assist with short-term cashflow planning.
* Prepare supporting schedules for year-end and audit processes and offer guidance to the team.
* Enhance finance processes by identifying improvement opportunities and helping implement better systems and controls.
Requirements:
* ACA/CIMA/ACCA Qualified
* Proven experience preparing management accounts in an SME setting.
* Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach
* Confident communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships
* Able to work independently and manage a varied workload
* Sage 50 Experience
