Summary
We are looking for a Level 2 & 3 English Specialist Lecturer to co-ordinate designated study programme delivery activities for the College, including the delivery of high-quality teaching, assessment, and feedback to students, inspiring and motivating students through outstanding teaching and learning that stretches and challenges students to be the best they can be. Responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of delivering of designated courses, including ensuring that the virtual learning environment is kept up to date and that all planning and tracking is completed following College policies. Lecturers should be passionate about their area of teaching and be enthusiastic about developing engaging course materials, lesson plans and assessments that are in alignment with the appropriate A-Level curriculum specification. You will provide academic support and guidance to promote positive learning outcomes as well as developing employability skills. All of this will be underpinned by regular target setting and progress monitoring to ensure that all students reach their full potential.
This role is 28.5 hours a week and 52 weeks a year.
Main Responsibilities and Duties
1. Deliver high quality teaching provision within the English specialism (A-Level English Language, GCSE English Language and Access to Higher Education – English literature) in accordance with approved College standards and applicable validating/ moderating bodies, prepare teaching materials, schemes of work and lesson plans, develop and implement the revised curriculum, undertake quality assurance in collaboration with the Curriculum Manager and Curriculum Director. Assess students’ written and practical work, monitor and report on their progress, including writing regular reviews of students’ Individual Learning Plans, recording, reporting and dissemination of assessment grades and students’ results in liaison with parents, carers and professional agencies as appropriate. This includes maintaining good order in the teaching environment and ensuring safeguarding, equal opportunities and health & safety compliance.
2. Undertake day-to-day course management duties including communication, problem solving, diagnostic compliance, timetable checks and amendments, arranging/ providing cover for lessons, planning and coordinating work experience and enrichment activities, coordinating internal verification scheduling, liaising with relevant departments (e.g., Exams, MIS, ALS) and completing related administration to ensure cross-site consistency.
3. Assist with recruitment and selection for courses, manage enrolment procedures, including Qualifications on Entry, transfers, additional qualification aims and late enrolments, to ensure students are registered on the right course at the correct level. Include organising and implementing appropriate Induction Programmes for students.
4. Conduct regular meetings with students, including one-to-one meetings to set and review SMART targets, assist with UCAS references, support pastoral needs, provide guidance in academic and personal matters, and liaise with cross-college services (e.g., Personal Development Tutors). The frequency of meetings will be determined by the Director of Curriculum.
5. Monitor student attendance and results, including start-of-year registers, exam entry, attendance, and course performance monitoring; report on attendance, retention, achievement and success with action plans where required.
6. Promote and support English and Maths provision in class and one-to-one settings, monitor attendance and student movement between English/Maths lessons as appropriate.
7. Attend meetings (staff meetings, parent evenings, marketing events, courses) and report back as directed; plan and coordinate parent consultations as required.
8. Collaborate with colleagues to develop courses, training methods and materials; participate in CPD events and peer observation for development; mentor new Lecturers as required.
9. Assist with departmental administration including timely marking of registers, updating Pro-Monitor, producing reports on attendance/retention/achievement and publishing materials on the College’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
10. Participate in college meetings/groups/committees and quality assurance mechanisms (verification, moderation, course reviews, SAR).
11. Undertake Internal Verification/ Moderation/ Standardisation procedures for an agreed curriculum/course(s).
12. Monitor and ensure timely completion of UCAS references and liaise with Higher Education Institutions as required.
