The Jefferiss Wing at St Mary’s Hospital is on the lookout for a proactive, empathetic, and non-judgmental Healthcare Assistant to join our forward-thinking nursing team within the Integrated Sexual Health Service.

7. Experience in phlebotomy or sexual health screening? Great! If not, we’ll train you.

Main duties of the job
9. Following training and assessment record routine observations of weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiratory rate and pain scores. Report any abnormalities and concerns to a Registered Nurse.
10. Following training and assessment perform venepuncture, microscopy, administer HIV point of care tests, pregnancy tests and urinalysis reporting abnormalities to the nurse in charge.
11. Following training and assessment, undertake screening for sexually transmitted infections including male urethral swabs, skin swabs and male and female throat swabs.
12. Measure, record and report capillary blood glucose levels of patients when required.
13. Recognise when patients are in pain and discomfort and report to nurse in charge.
14. Preparation and assisting with clinical procedures including chaperoning.

Education
Essential criteria
15. QCF Level 3 in Health or equivalent (NVQ3, Advanced Apprenticeship) Numerate
16. Able to speak and write English to an appropriate standard to fulfil the job requirements.
Experience
Essential criteria
17. Demonstrate a clear insight into the role.
18. Up to date experience - worked within an acute care setting within the last 18 months.
19. Willing to learn venepuncture and other relevant skills
Skills
