Job Summary
Teledyne Reynolds, based in Newbury, Berkshire, designs and manufactures high‑reliability interconnect solutions for the Defence, Space, Semiconductor and High‑End Commercial sectors. Our products support mission‑critical applications, from semiconductor inspection systems to spacecraft and planetary exploration.
We are expanding our Supply Chain function to support continued growth and new product development. Reporting to the Production Manager, the Senior Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring materials, components, and services required for electro‑mechanical manufacturing. The role involves guiding sourcing strategy, resolving shortages, managing supplier performance, and ensuring material availability to meet production schedules.
This role requires eligibility for UK Security Check (SC) clearance.
Key Responsibilities
Supplier Management & Sourcing Strategy:
1. Develop and manage strategic supplier relationships to ensure quality, delivery, cost, and reliability.
2. Lead sourcing activities including supplier identification, evaluation, onboarding, and audits.
3. Negotiate contracts, long‑term agreements, NDAs and pricing frameworks to secure competitive advantage.
4. Drive supplier improvement programs and develop risk‑mitigation plans for critical/sole‑source items.
Operational Procurement Execution:
5. Manage procurement of raw materials, fabricated parts, machined items, electronics and bespoke components.
6. Align procurement activities with production plans and engineering requirements for new product introductions.
7. Resolve material shortages promptly to prevent production downtime.
8. Oversee PO creation, amendments, expedites, and supplier communications.
9. Coordinate obsolescence management and engineering change impacts.
Performance, Reporting & Cost Management:
10. Monitor supplier performance metrics (OTD, quality, lead time, cost).
11. Identify and deliver cost‑reduction opportunities through negotiation, resourcing, and value engineering.
12. Produce regular reports on open POs, late orders, inventory coverage, and supply chain risks.
13. Support inventory optimisation, Kanban replenishment, and MRP data accuracy.
Compliance & Continuous Improvement:
14. Ensure adherence to procurement procedures, AS9100/ISO 9001 requirements, and compliance obligations.
15. Support audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
16. Contribute to policy, process and documentation improvements within the Supply Chain function.
Essential Qualifications & Skills:
17. 5+ years’ experience in procurement within electro‑mechanical or defence/aerospace manufacturing.
18. Strong understanding of electronic components, machined and fabricated parts, and technical specifications.
19. Proficient in ERP/MRP systems; experience with Infor XA strongly preferred.
20. Ability to read engineering drawings and BOMs.
21. Strong commercial negotiation and supplier‑relationship skills.
22. Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management capabilities across engineering and production.
23. Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100 or similar quality frameworks.
24. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Teams.
Desirable Qualifications & Skills:
25. CIPS Level 3+ or working towards accreditation.
26. Experience in Kanban systems and long‑term purchase agreements.
27. Data‑driven decision‑making mindset with high attention to detail.
28. Experience supporting new product development (NPI) sourcing.
29. Experience in defence procurement or security‑controlled environments.
Physical & Travel Requirements:
30. Ability to work at a computer workstation for extended periods.
31. Occasional local travel for supplier visits and business meetings.
