Paediatric Junior Sister - Band 6 - Full time opportunities

There is an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 to join our friendly team for a one-year fixed contract to cover maternity leave at Epsom Paediatric ED, with the requirement to work across any other Trust site as needed. We offer in-house Paediatric Crisis SIM courses and opportunities to attend APLS and other relevant SDs, supported by a Paediatric PDN specific to ED.
* Will be professionally accountable for their standards of professional practice as set by the NMC Code of Professional Standards of practice and behaviour and relevant professional guidelines.
* Will undertake the nurse in charge role for the department.
* Will supervise, support, and educate other team members, including nursing and medical students.
* Will ensure safe and effective clinical practice and enhance patient experience.
* Will ensure the promotion and implementation of trust policies and the effective delivery of organisational objectives.
* Will promote the Trust's vision, values, and divisional objectives.

Responsibilities
* Ensure high-quality clinical practice based on current evidence for nursing and medical standards.
* Promote effective and safe patient flow through the department.
* Advise on health promotion and illness prevention.
* Advocate for children and families using professional expertise, knowledge, and judgment.
* Observe and report changes in patients’ attitudes, behavior, emotional state, and physiological observations.
* Maintain clinical skills and competencies such as triage, venipuncture, IV cannulation, ECG monitoring, NG tube insertion, and administration of IV fluids, medications, and blood products.
* Recognize and act to prevent situations detrimental to patient health, escalating as needed.
* Administer and safeguard medicines according to Trust policy, including IV drugs and blood transfusions.
* Coordinate patient admissions, discharges, and care episodes, ensuring smooth transitions and effective communication with multi-professional teams.
* Encourage and utilize patient feedback to improve experience.
* Administer medications safely under patient group directives.
* Triages and escalates care for children and young people, with ongoing assessment.
* Conduct pain assessments and evaluate interventions.
* Collaborate with clinical colleagues, safeguarding teams, and external partners to protect children and young people.
* Follow infection control guidance and seek specialist support as needed.
