We have an exciting opportunity at the Energy Innovation Centre (EIC) for someone with a passion for supporting world‑leading research, looking to use their skills in research support, organisation, and administration to make an impact on low‑carbon energy solutions including hydrogen, carbon capture, bioenergy, and sustainable aviation fuels.
Are you an organised, proactive, and confident administrator who thrives in a fast‑moving, high‑impact environment? Do you want your work to directly support research tackling climate change and accelerating the transition to net zero? We are looking for someone like you to play a central role in supporting senior leadership, researchers and helping to keep a major UK research hub running smoothly.
You will join the EIC administrative team, within the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering at the University of Sheffield. You will work closely with colleagues across a large and diverse academic environment, contributing to our strong international research profile and reputation for delivering high‑impact, research‑led innovation.
About the role
You will provide a high‑quality administrative service to academic staff and the wider EIC team, ensuring the smooth delivery of research, strategic activity, and stakeholder engagement.
You will act as the first point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, providing a professional and efficient interface for the Centre.
You will also provide administrative and financial support to help deliver research and operational objectives, ensuring the Centre continues to run effectively and efficiently.
Key responsibilities
* Provide high‑level administrative support
* Act as the first point of contact for stakeholders
* Manage diaries, meetings, and competing priorities
* Organise events, workshops, and visits
* Support administrative and financial processes
* Maintain efficient office operations
* Work closely with academic and professional services colleagues
You will be educated to degree level or equivalent experience and bring proven experience in administration or office coordination. You will be highly organised, calm under pressure, and confident managing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment. You will have excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work proactively and build effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
Experience in a higher education, research, or innovation environment would be an advantage, but is not essential. As this role involves coordinating complex activities, experience in stakeholder engagement and the delivery of events and initiatives will be highly valuable.
Benefits
We offer a fantastic range of benefits including a highly competitive annual leave entitlement (with the ability to purchase more), a generous pensions scheme, flexible working opportunities, a commitment to your development and wellbeing, a wide range of retail discounts, and much more.
We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University. We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect.
