An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Healthcare Support Worker to join our team within the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) at Borders General Hospital.
MAU is a fast-paced and dynamic environment, receiving all medical admissions for assessment. This busy area has high turnover of patients, offering the chance to gain experience across a wide range of acute conditions.

Role and Responsibilities
* Play a vital role in supporting Registered Nurses to deliver high-quality, direct patient care.
* Work under supervision to ensure patient safety is maintained at all times.
* Provide a high standard of nursing care in line with NHS Borders policies and protocols.
* Contribute to a positive patient experience within a busy acute setting.
Working Pattern
This post involves a flexible shift pattern, including:
* Day shifts: 07:30 - 20:00
* Night shifts: 19:30 - 08:00
* Weekend working
Applicants must be able to work across all shift patterns.

* NHS Borders operates a values‑based recruitment process.

As of 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will reduce from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part‑time hours will be reduced pro‑rata. There will be a corresponding increase in hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check. If assessed as a regulated role, the appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. Any changes will be confirmed by the Hiring Manager or Recruitment Team.
To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is granted by the UK Visa and Immigration Service. NHS Scotland Boards will check entitlement to work in the UK during pre‑employment checks.
