Are you passionate about ensuring children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) receive the support, voice and opportunities they deserve?
If so, this is your chance to play a vital role in North Yorkshire’s SEND Information, Advice & Support Service (SENDIASS).
SENDIASS is a confidential, impartial service that empowers parents, carers, children and young people (0–25) with SEND. We help families navigate the SEND system, understand their rights, and access the education and support best suited to their needs.
Key Responsibilities
As our SENDIASS Co‑ordinator, you will:
* Manage your own caseload, offering tailored support and guidance.
* Run the SENDIASS enquiry helpline on a rota basis.
* Advise families and young people on SEND law and the SEND Code of Practice (2015).
* Champion the voices of children & young people and ensure their views are central to all assessments and planning.
* Support participation in meetings, mediation and (where required) Tribunal hearings.
* Work closely with education, health, and social care professionals.
* Provide training and information to parents/carers, education, health and social care professionals.
* Help shape a more inclusive system across North Yorkshire.
* Develop specialist knowledge to strengthen the team.
* Contribute to service planning, reporting and quality standards.
* Support and supervise SENDIASS volunteers.
What We’re Looking For
You’ll bring:
* Strong knowledge of SEND legislation and best practice.
* Experience working with children, young people or families (0–25).
* Excellent communication, mediation and interpersonal skills.
* Confidence working independently, using initiative and managing a varied caseload.
* Emotional resilience and professionalism in challenging situations.
* Ability to travel throughout the county.
A professional qualification in Social Work, Education or Healthcare is required.
The successful applicant will be expected to complete the IPSEA Levels 1, 2 and 3 in SEND Law within a 6-month period.
