Overview
Database Administrator – Location: Norwich. Salary: Circa £45,000. This role focuses on ensuring data is secure, accessible, and running at peak performance. The ideal candidate has a strong background in database administration, particularly PostgreSQL and SQL Server, and is ready to take on a more strategic and collaborative role within the Tech Platforms team.
This role exists to ensure the performance, integrity, and security of Aviva's databases. You will join our Tech Platforms team, a collaborative group responsible for supporting the backbone of our digital infrastructure. You will design, implement, and maintain database systems that are robust, scalable, and secure.
Responsibilities
* Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply patches and new versions as required.
* Perform database backups and recovery procedures, including disaster recovery tests, and troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues in a timely manner.
* Create and maintain documentation related to database configurations, processes, and procedures.
* Work closely with developers and IT teams to optimize database solutions and support business-critical applications.
* Provide some out-of-hours support, including evenings and weekends, to support production deployments and general system maintenance.
Qualifications
* Extensive experience as a Database Administrator, with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, AWS RDS, and Terraform skills and experience (essential).
* In-depth knowledge of database management systems (DBMS), especially PostgreSQL and SQL Server; DB2 would be an advantage.
* Strong understanding of database design, implementation, and maintenance.
* Experience with database performance tuning and optimization, and familiarity with backup and recovery procedures.
* Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and strong communication and collaboration abilities.
