Job Title: Principal HV/MV Electrical Engineer (Inside of IR35)

We are seeking an experienced Principal HV/MV Electrical Engineer to join an established Electrical Design Team delivering critical infrastructure projects across the Defence sector. This is a key position that offers the opportunity to lead the design, assessment, and optimisation of high- and medium-voltage electrical systems within safety-critical environments.
This role combines technical leadership with strategic input, and will suit a candidate who thrives in high-hazard sectors where safety, precision, and reliability are paramount.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
1. Lead the development, specification, and assessment of HV/MV electrical design packages.
2. Deliver expert guidance and innovative solutions to support project goals and system integrity.
Reliability & Performance
3. Define operational constraints and ensure optimal performance of electrical infrastructure.
4. Lead fault analysis, condition assessment, and system improvement initiatives.
Design Assessment & Risk Management
5. Evaluate the condition and compliance of existing HV/MV systems, considering ageing, design standards, and risk mitigation.
6. Recommend enhancements to ensure safety, reliability, and regulatory alignment.
Safety & Compliance
7. Ensure adherence to safety protocols and promote a proactive safety-first approach across all project phases.
8. Work within the parameters of UK security and industry-specific safety regulations.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
9. Extensive experience in HV/MV and LV electrical system design, including protection, control, and instrumentation systems.
10. Strong understanding of British and international design standards.
11. Proven delivery of infrastructure projects in complex, regulated, or high-hazard environments.
12. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to assess operational constraints, system reliability, and asset condition.
13. Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality outputs safely, on schedule, and to specification.
Desirable:
14. Experience in the nuclear or defence industries.
15. Incorporated Engineer status or equivalent professional recognition.
Qualifications & Training
Essential:
16. HNC or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering.
Desirable:
17. Degree or equivalent in electrical engineering or a closely related discipline.
Additional Information
18. This position requires eligibility for SC clearance in line with UK National Security Vetting criteria.
19. Open to both permanent and umbrella contract arrangements.
