We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Premises and Grounds Assistant to join our Estates & Facilities team. This is a varied and hands-on role, supporting the upkeep of our grounds, premises, vehicles, and facilities to ensure a safe, welcoming, and well-presented school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Grounds & Site Maintenance
* Maintain lawns, flower beds, shrubs, and hedges to a high standard.
* Ensure pathways, entrances, and play areas are free from litter, leaves, and obstructions.
* Carry out seasonal tasks including pruning, composting, and gritting during adverse weather.
* Jet wash pathways and play courts, and maintain garden tools and machinery.
School Vehicles
* Drive school minibuses and other vehicles as required (training provided).
* Complete weekly vehicle checks, report defects, and keep vehicles clean, roadworthy, and fuelled.
* Assist with collections, deliveries, and traffic duties at peak times.
Premises Support
* Assist with general maintenance tasks and minor repairs.
* Support site security, ensuring doors, windows, and gates are locked/unlocked at the correct times.
* Report faults and damage promptly.
* Support contractors and maintenance trades working on-site.
Facilities Support
* Set up and clear down furniture, equipment, and signage for school events.
* Assist with internal and external lettings.
* Undertake basic cleaning, waste collection, and furniture assembly when required.
Health & Safety
* Act as Fire Marshal and assist with fire alarm testing and safety checks.
* Report hazards, accidents, and near misses promptly.
* Carry out manual handling tasks safely and in line with training.
* Complete online compliance checks as required.
Professional Development
* Attend safeguarding and mandatory training.
* Take part in staff meetings, INSET, and school events.
* Engage in performance reviews and ongoing development.

* Practical, hands-on approach with experience in grounds, maintenance, or caretaking.
* Ability to use tools, equipment, and vehicles safely (training provided where required).
* Flexible, reliable, and able to prioritise tasks effectively.
* Good communication skills and a team player.
