Our leading global consulting, construction engineering client is Commercial Leads on a permanent basis to support Severn Trent Water capital delivery projects based out of Tamworth.

This is an exciting time to join the consultancies new Project, Programme, PMO and Commercial Management Capability in the United Kingdom which is undergoing a transformative phase.

The Commercial Lead will oversee high-value contracts in the Water & Environment sector, with opportunities to expand into Defence and Nuclear. This is your opportunity to shape delivery outcomes, drive commercial excellence, and influence the future of sustainable infrastructure.

You'll lead a team of commercial professionals across multi-million-pound contracts. You'll provide strategic oversight from procurement through to close-out, ensuring alignment with project timelines, budgets, and risk profiles. You'll also engage with senior stakeholders, regulators, and delivery partners to ensure commercial integrity and performance. This role is ideal for a commercially astute leader with deep infrastructure experience and a passion for driving value, innovation, and continuous improvement.


Responsibilities

1. Build, lead and develop the commercial and cost management function into a high performing team
2. Support the work winning team to review and identify risks and accountabilities within tender packs and contractual terms
3. Prepare, develop and implement commercial solutions to support work winning
4. Lead commercial delivery across complex, multi-workstream programmes
5. Oversee contract execution, supplier performance, and risk mitigation
6. Ensure compliance with NEC3/4 and FIDIC contracts, UK law, and regulatory frameworks
7. Guide procurement strategy and contract preparation across all phases
8. Support feasibility studies, benchmarking, and value management
9. Lead cost planning, estimating, and final cost plan presentation
10. Manage post-contract cost variances, valuations, and change control
11. Oversee final account negotiation and post-project evaluation
12. Act as a trusted interface with clients, consultants, and delivery teams
13. Collaborate with senior leadership to shape client-focused bids
14. Provide commercial insight to strengthen proposal strategy
15. Maintain a robust database of lessons learned and bid outcomes
16. Drive continuous improvement across commercial processes and tools

Skills/qualifications/experience

17. Strong financial modelling experience
18. Excellent client facing and supply chain facing skills
19. Expert commercial acumen and problem solving skills
20. Experience of managing teams
21. Enthusiasm and ability to inspire and motivate people
22. Extensive experience in water, environment, defence, or nuclear sectors
23. Strong knowledge of CDM regulations and risk management
24. NEC3/4 contract expertise (Options A, C, E essential)
25. Experience with ECI/ESI in design & build programmes
26. Valid CSCS card; Water Hygiene Card desirable
27. Line management experience and ability to mentor junior QSs
28. Willingness to work on-site a minimum of 3 days per week
29. Right to work in the UK; role subject to client interview and acceptance

Benefits

30. Salary range £80-95k depending on experience
31. Monday - Thursday - 37.5 hour working week (Friday WFH)
32. 26 days holiday, increasing by 1 day for 1 year served and up to 28 after year 3
33. £3k car allowance
