Buyer – Up to £38,000 – Hampshire
We are seeking a driven and motivated Buyer to become an integral part of our Procurement function. Working closely with the Procurement Manager, this role will focus on sourcing a diverse range of engineering and manufactured components while balancing cost, quality, and delivery performance. The successful candidate will actively interpret Bills of Materials (BoMs), support ongoing and future projects, and contribute to the continuous improvement of purchasing activities across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
The Buyer will be accountable for a broad range of procurement activities, including:
* Issuing requests for quotations and evaluating supplier responses
* Creating and managing purchase orders within the ERP system
* Negotiating with suppliers to secure favourable pricing and commercial terms
* Building, maintaining, and developing effective supplier relationships
* Ensuring materials are procured at optimal cost while meeting quality and delivery requirements
* Sourcing and onboarding new suppliers, reviewing supplier performance, and rationalising the supply base where necessary
* Liaising with finance to resolve invoice discrepancies, manage credits, and support cost control
* Supporting the Procurement Manager with supplier development initiatives and KPI monitoring
* Collaborating closely with engineering, design, and other internal stakeholders on new products, projects, and material estimates
* Reviewing and selecting suppliers based on commercial and technical suitability
* Managing returns and ensuring timely processing of supplier credits
* Driving improvements in purchasing processes to reduce external spend and improve efficiency
* Completing required product safety and compliance training
Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
* Strong negotiation and communication skills, both verbal and written
* CIPS qualification at Level 3 or above
* Experience using Sage 200 and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
* A proven background in purchasing within an engineering or manufacturing environment
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
* A proactive approach to problem solving and decision making
* The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
