At RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, Serco has been providing multi-activity and engineering support since 1997. Serco proudly supports the RAF and MoD, supplying around 20 different services onsite, from engine and aircraft maintenance to fueling and ground control services.
RAF Brize Norton is the largest operating base within the Royal Air Force, providing air transport and air-to-air refueling to the RAF fleet. You will contribute significantly to the vital work carried out here and be part of the wider team, which includes 5,800 service personnel, 1,200 contractors, and 300 civil servants.
HGV Senior Technician (Aircraft Refueling Bowsers) Responsibilities:
* Maintenance and rectification of aircraft refueling vehicles, fuel transfer vehicles, TREPEL Cargo Lifters, and associated equipment.
* Runway Arrestor Gear Daily Checks and Maintenance (training provided).
Working Regime:
Mon-Fri, 40 hours/week
07:00 - 16:00 Mon-Thu
07:00 - 13:00 Fri
Standby out-of-hours commitment – standby duty from home Mon-Fri, including weekend Runway Arrestor Gear Daily Checks (07:30 - 08:30 Sat and Sun). Standby weeks, including weekends, are typically required every 6 weeks and attract additional pay. On-the-job training will be provided.
Role Responsibilities:
* Ensure compliance with relevant Quality Systems.
* Support internal, external, and independent audit activities.
* Promote a safety culture aligned with Serco’s “Zero Harm” policy.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives.
* Integrate effectively into teams.
* Adhere to technical Work Procedures, Health & Safety Instructions, and Serco Operating Procedures.
* Maintain compliance with fire, emergency evacuation, quality, Risk, and COSHH standards.
* Maintain a safe, tidy, and efficient working environment.
Ensure maintenance, paperwork, and services are completed accurately and first-time right.
Candidate Requirements:
* Experience in Vehicle Maintenance or Mechanical Equipment, or transferable skills from HGV, Vehicle, Plant Fitter, or Aviation maintenance.
* Ability to safely complete maintenance and rectification tasks.
* Functional IT skills for using Electronic Technical Manuals and updating Maintenance Recording systems.
* Excellent team player with a proactive safety approach.
* Strong oral and written communication skills.
* Eyesight and colour perception to achieve Military “CP2” standard for Airfield Driving.
Desirable Skills:
* NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Vehicle/Technical Maintenance.
