Brief Overview Our client specialises in the refurbishment and re-roofing of existing, occupied buildings rather than new builds. Acting as a main contractor, they supply their own scaffold and facilities. Projects include flat roofs, pitched roofs (slates and tiles), and industrial sheeting/cladding, often with associated refurbishment such as chimney re-pointing, decoration, and replacement of windows and gutters. What You’ll Be Doing * Manage and oversee the estimating department, staff, and resources. * Ensure orders are secured to meet turnover, cash flow, and profit targets. * Visit and survey prospective sites, taking accurate measurements and photographs. * Take core samples or remove slates/tiles to establish roof build-up and structure. * Prepare costs, quantities, and detailed proposals supported with photographic evidence. * Submit tenders and proposals on time to a high professional standard. * Follow up quotations and tenders, logging outcomes and feeding intelligence back to management. * Launch projects after orders are won, briefing contracts staff on pricing and opportunities. * Mentor, train, and develop junior estimating staff. * Manage workload effectively to prioritise high-value enquiries. * Contribute to departmental strategy and continuous improvement. * Monitor and forecast departmental performance against commercial targets. * Keep up to date with new roofing systems, materials, and technologies. * Participate in senior management meetings with reports and forecasts. * Oversee departmental recruitment, training, and appraisals. * Demonstrate excellent commercial knowledge and contract awareness. What We’re Looking For * Extensive experience as a roofing estimator, ideally at senior level. * Strong IT skills, particularly in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook). * Excellent organisation, time management, numeracy, and written English. * Full and clean UK driving licence. * Living within a reasonable commute of the Tolworth/Surbiton office.
