Position: Deputy Manager
Location: Coventry (commutable)
Hours: Full time, shift rota including sleep-ins and occasional weekends
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Support the Registered Manager to lead a children’s home for children and young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties and complex needs, including autism and SEMH. Deliver trauma-informed care, supervise staff, maintain regulatory compliance and promote positive outcomes.
Key responsibilities
* Operational leadership: Assist the Registered Manager with day-to-day running of the home and deputise in their absence.
* Safeguarding and compliance: Ensure timely notifications, accurate records, and preparedness for Reg 44 visits and Ofsted inspections.
* Team leadership: Supervise, mentor and appraise staff; lead shift handovers; coordinate training and staff development.
* Behaviour support: Oversee implementation and review of positive behaviour support plans, functional behaviour assessments and individual risk assessments.
* Records and administration: Maintain accurate case files, medication records, staff rotas and incident reports; support audits and money handling procedures.
* Family and multi-agency work: Build positive relationships with families, social workers and external professionals; attend reviews and meetings.
* Practical duties: Contribute to household management, health and safety, and creating a therapeutic, homely environment.
Person specification
Essential
* Experience: Minimum 2 years in a senior or supervisory role in children’s residential care, with direct experience supporting young people with EBD.
* Qualifications: Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (or equivalent); working towards or holding Level 5 desirable.
* Safeguarding knowledge: Confident with safer recruitment, LADO procedures and statutory notifications.
* Skills: Strong communicator, decisive problem-solver, competent with IT and care records.
* Values: Person-centred, resilient, calm under pressure, and committed to positive behaviour change.
Desirable
* First aid and medication training.
* Proven experience supporting Ofsted inspections and improving regulatory ratings.
* Experience with PBS frameworks and functional behaviour assessment.
