Overview
School nurses are specialist Community Public Health Nurses who provide support to school‑age children and young people. The role builds on early prevention and intervention within universal health visiting by offering targeted complex assessment, intervention and support for the most vulnerable children and families, particularly those impacted by health inequalities and poverty.
As part of the public health team, school nurses contribute to early prevention in the school years through health education and promotion, working through the Getting It Right Practice Model and as a named health partner to the plan for children and young people.
School nursing functions as part of the whole system of mental health support, providing key contributions to tier 1 and tier 2 care and enabling appropriate access to Tier 3 CAMHS when required.
School nurses are responsible for delegating work to other members of the school nursing team as appropriate to coordinate care.
Qualifications
* Current first level registration.
* Post‑graduate level study (SCQF level 11, master’s level) that leads to professional registration on part 3 of the NMC Register as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN).
* Ability to travel for work requirements.
* Overseas Criminal Record Check may be required depending on nationality and recent residency history. Applicants must be a national of the UK or one of the listed EU countries and must not have lived or worked outside of these countries for more than three months in the past five years aged 18 or over.
