Job overview

An excellent opportunity has become available for an enthusiastic, committed, adaptable individual with an interest in working in Pharmacy Aseptics.

The successful applicant will become part of a busy team working within our licensed aseptic unit at Singleton Hospital offering a high quality service to our Health Board patients. The aseptic unit provides a wide range of injectable medicines in a ready to use form including cytotoxic chemotherapy, monoclonal antibody therapies, parenteral nutrition and clinical trials medicines.

Singleton Hospital looks out over the sweep of Swansea Bay, 5 minutes’ walk from the beach and within 15 minutes’ drive to the award winning coast of the Gower peninsula, the UK’s first area of outstanding natural beauty.

Main duties of the job

The work will include cleaning, monitoring & maintenance of equipment & facilities, stock management of medicines & consumables, assembly of batches & orders and the aseptic preparation & dispensing of medicines.

Previous pharmacy experience is recommended. Applicants will be expected to undergo training and successfully achieve NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Services following appointment.

Experience

Essential criteria

1. Be computer literate, being able to use Microsoft Office and have basic keyboard skills
2. Good numeracy and literacy skills including: calculations, percentages, decimals, fractions.

Desirable criteria

3. Previous relevant experience of working in a Pharmacy, healthcare manufacturing or laboratory or scientific environment

Skills/Knowledge

Essential criteria

4. Able to carry out verbal and written instructions accurately
5. Able to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and written able to concentrate when frequently under pressure and subject to interruptions.
6. Ability to work to a full range of local pharmacy codes and procedures

Qualifications

Essential criteria

7. 5 GCSE A to C grade or equivalent
8. NVQ Level 3 or able to demonstrate the equivalent level of knowledge, skills and experience in pharmacy technical services or equivalent level qualification in a relevant subject e.g. healthcare, laboratory, scientific or manufacturing qualification (committed to obtaining this)
