High-rise and complex buildings face growing demands for compliant, fully validated smoke ventilation systems. With stricter requirements under the Building Safety Act 2022, the risk of design errors and missing "Golden Thread" documentation has never been higher. We are hiring a Senior Smoke Ventilation System Engineer to ensure our systems meet all regulations and deliver 100% design compliance, robust validation, and seamless project handover.
Your Impact
* Design and validate mechanical smoke ventilation systems across 4–6 concurrent projects, ensuring full compliance with EN 12101 series, BS 9991 and BS9999
* Lead and manage end‑to‑end design workflows, breaking down complex phases into deliverables to meet all key milestones
* Review and approve calculations, drawings, and technical submissions to ensure correct system performance and reduce design risk
* Commission and analyse CFD studies with third‑party engineers to validate design assumptions and system behaviour
* Act as Competent Person, signing off designs per the Building Safety Act 2022 and maintaining an accurate Golden Thread
* Collaborate with clients and authorities, presenting compliant design rationales and resolving technical issues during pre‑construction
What Drives Success
* 5+ years of experience in smoke control or fire engineering with expertise in MSVS and Smoke Clearance Systems
* Ability to apply BS 9991, BS 7346‑8, EN 12101 series and Approved Document B to real‑world system design
* Skilled in fan laws, pressure calculations, and interpreting CFD outputs to improve design robustness
* Clear communicator who builds trust with clients, fire authorities, and internal teams
* Structured problem‑solver who maintains accuracy under pressure and manages multiple complex projects effectively
Real Impact Example
In 2024, our team delivered the certified Clear Choice smoke control system for The Lewisham Exchange, a 35‑storey development with 758 student rooms and 67 affordable homes. We designed and validated systems for three independent residential cores, including depressurisation systems and smoke clearance systems, with EN 12101‑compliant components. Working across modular construction constraints, our engineers validated airflows and pressures through CFD analysis, and coordinated compliance with BS 9991 and the Smoke Control Association guidance. The project supported the building's BREEAM "Excellent" rating and demonstrated NOVENCO's ability to deliver safe, efficient highrise life‑safety solutions.
What we offer
* Competitive salary and employee benefits in line with company policy.
