Old School Surgery is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated Practice Manager to lead the operational, administrative and strategic management of the practice. We need someone who can combine a focus on patient care and continuity with business and strategic planning skills.
The Practice Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations, including staff management, compliance and service development, while fostering a supportive, high-performing and well organised environment.
The role is ideal for someone with strong leadership skills, a thorough understanding of NHS primary care and a commitment to improving patient services.
Main duties of the job
The Practice Manager is responsible for the overall day-today management of the practice. This includes providing leadership and line management to the non-clinical team, overseeing recruitment, appraisals, performance management, absences and staff wellbeing.
The role includes responsibility for contract management across our GMS contract, enhanced services and PCN related activity, ensuring compliance with CQC standards, NHS contractual requirements and governance obligations. Leading on service improvement, digital transformation and efficiency initiatives. The postholder will support and maintain high Quality Outcomes Framework achievement.
The Practice Manager will be the key point of contact for NHS England, ICB and other key organisations. They will act as practice representative at meetings, both remotely and in person.

Our small team, led by our GP Partner, looks after approximately 6000 patients.
Job responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
* Overall day‑today management of the practice
* Leadership and management of administrative, dispensary and clinical support staff
* Recruitment, HR processes, staff rotas and performance management
* Ensuring compliance with CQC, NHS contractual requirements and clinical governance standard
* Service development and practice improvements
* Maintaining high results in QOF achievement
* Managing patient services, workflows, and operational efficiency
* Representing the practice and meetings both remotely and in person
* Infection control compliance and inspections
* Dealing with patient complaints/annual complaints return
* Premises checks and maintenance including Health &Safety, equipment calibration, PAT testing, Fire equipment, intruder alarm and cleaning staff and schedules
* Maintenance of Old School Surgery website

Qualifications
* Good standard of education with excellent literacy and numeracy skills
* Previous experience in a Practice Manager or management role
* Excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills
* Ability to work collaboratively with GP Partner and the wider team
* Ability to work autonomously and make sound decisions under pressure
* High level of IT proficiency (EMIS, Office/Excel, reporting tools)
* Ability to analyse and present financial and performance data
* Ability to develop, implement and embed policies and procedures
* Experience of staff performance management including appraisals and staff development
* You will be a calm professional, able to navigate competing priorities and support teams across a fast‑paced environment
* Experience of CQC and regulatory requirements
* Experience of delivering and monitoring contractual requirements (QOF, GMS contract, Enhanced Services)
* Ability to influence and negotiate at senior level
