Contract Type: Long-Term Contract (Inside IR35)
About the Role
Our client is proud to have been appointed by HS2 to deliver civil engineering works across an 80km section of the new high-speed rail link between the Chiltern Tunnel and Long Itchington Wood.
We are currently seeking an experienced Section Engineer with a strong background in earthworks and / or drainage to join our team on a long-term freelance contract based in the Calvert area.
Reporting to the Sub Agent, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of works from construction through to close-out, ensuring activities are delivered safely, on programme, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Report directly to the Sub Agent and support the delivery of works from construction to completion
* Supervise and manage the site engineering team, including performance and development of Site Engineers
* Assist with temporary works design schemes and ensure aligns with approved designs
* Liaise with the Sub Agent and Section Foreman to allocate labour, plant, and materials effectively
* Manage and coordinate site setting-out activities
* Identify, resolve, and accelerate technical issues in liaison with the Sub Agent
* Monitor and coordinate subcontractors, ensuring works are completed in line with contractual requirements
* Ensure the engineering team has access to up-to-date information, drawings, and resources
* Assist with the production of programmes, progress reports, resource plans, and cost plans
* Contribute to financial forecasting and reporting
* Ensure all works are carried out in compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards
About the Candidate
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
* HNC or Degree in Civil Engineering / Construction (or equivalent)
* Working towards or holding professional membership (ICE preferred)
* Proven experience in site engineering combined with construction supervision
* Essential experience in earthworks and / or drainage
* Strong technical problem-solving and communication skills
* Ability to manage teams and coordinate subcontractors effectively
Mandatory Requirements
* Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
* Valid CSCS card (White, White-Yellow, Red – Experienced, Gold – Supervisor, or Black – Manager)
* SSSTS or SMSTS certification
