Powertrain Engineer (PTSE) Automotive Contract Role | Leading Automotive OEM
A leading automotive OEM is seeking an experienced PTSE Engineer to support the design, development, and release of critical fuel and evaporative systems. This is a hands-on contract role focused on technical delivery, problem resolution, and robust engineering through to launch.
Technical Scope and Experience Required
Demonstrable experience across fuel and evaporative system components, including:
Fuel Cap
Filler Pipe and Filler Hose
Fuel Tank
Fuel Delivery Module (FDM)
Charcoal Canister
Leak Detection Systems
Fuel Lines
Vent and Evaporative Emission Lines
Fuel Filters
You will lead the design, development, and release of PTSE components, ensuring alignment with performance, safety, cost, quality, and programme targets.
Key Responsibilities and Role Expectations
Failure Mode Avoidance and Problem Solving
Lead complex engineering investigations using structured 8D methodologies to identify and eliminate root causes.
Apply Failure Mode Avoidance techniques, including containment, warranty risk mitigation, and recurrence prevention.
Use data-driven problem-solving tools to validate cause and effect relationships, incorporating measurement system capability and process mapping.
Define and implement robust, permanent corrective actions with appropriate control strategies.
Deliver resilient, cost-effective engineering solutions using OEM issue management and robustness frameworks.
Systems Engineering
Apply systems engineering principles to resolve multi-disciplinary technical challenges.
Support systems design, integration, verification, and validation activities.
Manage requirements, systems modelling, test definition, execution, workflow, and configuration control.
Deliver integrated system solutions that meet functional, regulatory, and stakeholder requirements.
Define and maintain design rules and engineering standards for PTSE components and systems.
Geometric Dimensional Control and Tolerance Management
Decompose complex systems into logical assembly sequences, defining key locating and fixing strategies.
Manage dimensional variation using statistical analysis and six degrees of freedom principles.
Analyse measurement data using appropriate engineering toolsets to support high-quality component release.
Apply digital engineering tools to support component maturation through prototype, build, and launch phases.
Commodity Planning and Programme Delivery
Interpret programme assumptions, reuse strategies, and commodity plans to support feature delivery.
Manage commodity delivery against programme critical paths using structured OEM delivery frameworks.
Apply all phases of APQP and support Engineering Build Event Readiness activities.
Cost and Budget Management
Analyse financial data across engineering and supplier inputs to identify cost risks and optimisation opportunities.
Track and report engineering KPIs using appropriate financial and programme tools.
Develop and implement financial risk mitigation strategies using complex datasets and OEM cost processes.
