The High School of Glasgow is seeking an inspirational, experienced and enthusiastic Teacher of Geography to provide maternity cover in our highly successful Geography Department from June/August .
The Geography and Modern Studies Department consists of four full-time teachers and one part-time teacher. The department is located on the top floor of the John Shaw Science Wing with fabulous views across the campus towards the Campsies and Old Kilpatrick Hills.
There are four classrooms and a departmental base, all of which have modern computers, while the department is well resourced with data projectors and interactive whiteboards, Apple TV facilities, a range of OS maps, fieldwork equipment and other resources to complement learning and teaching. In addition, pupils from Transitus to S6 have their own School iPad. The department run a successful range of fieldwork activities to compliment classroom teaching as well as international trips, including a recent trip to Iceland.
The Geography and Modern Studies Department’s academic record is excellent. In session -26, 97% of Geography candidates achieved passes at National 5 level, with 69% at Grade A. At Higher, % of candidates achieved grades A-C, with 64% at Grade A, while at Advanced Higher, % of candidates achieved grades A-C, with 56% at Grade A.
In session -, out of year groups of approximately one hundred pupils, 34 are studying National 5 Geography in Third Year and 31 in Fourth Year, while a further 21 are taking Higher Geography and 6 pupils are studying Advanced Higher.
The successful applicant will be a committed and enthusiastic Teacher of Geography with high standards of professionalism. They will have opportunities to teach both Higher and Advanced Higher Geography. A willingness to get involved in the extra-curricular life of the School would be welcome.
The appointment will begin on Monday 1 June or Thursday 13 August. Candidates must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS). The appointment will be subject to a successful application to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.
