We have an exciting opportunity for a Permanent, Full Time, Mechanical Clerk of Works to join Southampton City Council (SCC) in the Asset Management Team.

You will join the Risk & Compliance team at a time of significant change with an ambitious improvement programme underway.
About the role
* Oversee and monitor gas and mechanical installation, servicing, and maintenance works to ensure full legislative and technical compliance.
* Supervise contractor performance, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date compliance data, records, and certification for audit and assurance purposes.
* Support the implementation of new legislation, policies, and best practice in mechanical and statutory compliance.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders to promote safe, compliant, and efficient building management.

About you
You will have:
* Recognised qualification in Heating & Ventilation or a related mechanical discipline.
* Strong technical knowledge of domestic and commercial gas and mechanical systems, including general engineering practices.
* Proven experience supervising contractors and managing compliance in mechanical installation or maintenance projects.
* Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to work with compliance databases.
* Strong communication and report‑writing skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with tenants, contractors, and council officers.

Salary: The salary band for this role is £41,771 to £46,141 per annum. The starting salary is £41,771 with annual progression through the salary bands.
